Senior Partner

Mr. Patrick G. Barugahare

Patrick G. Barugahare (Senior Partner) is the founder of the Firm. He holds a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) from Monash University, Australia and a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B Hons, Upper Second Class) from Makerere University Law School. He also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip.LP) from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda. Patrick is a senior legal practitioner with a combined legal practice experience in both Australia and Uganda of over twenty (20) years. He has undertaken many legal and regulatory framework studies in Uganda for government and non-government development agencies. Patrick also has extensive experience in private legal practice and manages all the commercial law and legal consulting work of the Firm. Patrick is highly committed to ensuring all clients are provided with high quality, individually tailored and confidential legal advice. He works closely with clients, advising and helping them achieve their desired outcomes. Patrick is a Commissioner of Oaths and a Notary Public.

Mr. John B. Kabandize

John Kabandize (Partner) joined the Firm in 2000 after completing his Bachelors of Laws Degree (LL.B Hons) from Makerere University in 1999. He has over ten years of experience in legal practice in Uganda. He completed the Post–Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip.LP) at the Law Development Centre in 2000. He also undertook the Advanced International Training Programme in Trans-boundary Water Management Stockholm International Water Institute, 2008. John has extensive experience in private legal practice and specialises in Commercial Law transactions. He has wide litigation experience in the High Court of Uganda, and has represented domestic, international, corporate, institutional and individual clients. He is familiar with all banking related work including conveyancing, mortgage, debenture preparation and registration, and preparation of loan agreements. He is a Commissioner of Oaths and a Notary Public in Uganda.

Mr. Patrick Alunga Alvarez

Patrick Alunga Alvarez holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B Hons.) from Makerere University Law School. He also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip.LP) from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda. Patrick joined the firm in 2008 and after five (5) years of commercial litigation practice was admitted as partner of the firm in early 2014. He has extensive litigation experience and handles all aspects of commercial litigation on behalf of our corporate clients. His practice extends to alternative dispute resolution including arbitration and mediation matters referred to the Centre for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (CADER). He handles litigation in the High Court as well as appeals in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Uganda. Patrick also handles transaction and legal advisory work for our corporate and individual clients.

Consultant

Mr. Absalom Mubangizi

Absalom holds a Masters of Laws degree (LL.M) and a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B Hons, Second Class-Upper Division) from Makerere University Law School. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip.LP) from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda. Absalom Mubangizi has also undertaken specialised training in trial advocacy with the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) and International Law Institute (ILI). He joined the firm in 2009 after working at the Uganda Law Reform Commission where he gained experience in law reform, law revision and legislative drafting. He handles litigation work, commercial transaction and other work undertaken by the Firm.

Consultant

Mr. Ben Kamugasha holds an LLB (Hons) degree from the Faculty of Law, Makerere University and a M.Sc. (Econ) from the London School of Economics, London University. (Majoring in Personnel Management, Institutions and Processes).  Mr. Kamugasha has wide experience in the area of Human Rights.  He was the Permanent Secretary in the Uganda Ministry of Constitutional Affairs at the time of the constitutional making process of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda, a position which exposed him to human rights issues. He is also an institutional and organizational specialist.

Mr. Kamugasha is affiliated to the Firm and undertakes wide ranging legal, policy and institutional consultancy work in close collaboration with the legal consultancy division of the Firm. He has undertaken many legal, policy and institutional reform studies in the water, sanitation and environment sectors at both national and regional levels.

Ms. Doreen Ninsiima

Doreen Ninsiima is a holder of a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B Hons – Second Class, Upper Division) from Uganda Christian University, Mukono. She completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip. LP) course at the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda and was admitted to practice as an Advocate and member of both the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society in 2014. Doreen joined the Firm in 2013. She carries out research in relation to the Firm’s litigation and legal advisory work. She also assists professional staff in relation to company and intellectual property related work. Her areas of interest include company work, intellectual property, employment law and land transactions.

Ms. Sheilla Kasolo

Sheilla holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB Hons.) from Uganda Christian University, Mukono, Uganda. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip. LP) from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda. She joined the firm in 2014. Sheilla handles research work, commercial transaction, immigration, NGO work, litigation and other work undertaken by the Firm.
Sheilla is admitted to practice law as an Advocate and is a member of both Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society.

Mr. Albert Mukasa

Albert Mukasa is a holder of a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B Hons) from Makerere University, Law School, 2011. He completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip.LP) course at the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda in 2012. He was admitted to practice as an Advocate in 2013. Albert has undertaken various specialized post-graduate training courses.

He joined the Firm in September 2016 after working as a Legal Assistant with the Law Development Centre Legal Aid Aid Clinic (August 2012 – October 2013) and as an Advocate with Kanduho & Co. Advocates (November 2013 – August 2016). He has worked and gained experience in diverse areas of practice including land transactions/conveyancing, contracts, company law, commercial transactions and litigation.

Ms. Rebecca Luyiga

Rebecca holds a Diploma in Secondary Education from Kyambogo University (formerly ITEK- Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo). She also holds a Diploma in Sale and Marketing Management from Cambridge College UK. Rebecca joined the Firm in 2003. She provides professional administration support and manages the front desk of the Firm, ready to assist clients. She brings a committed strength to the firm with her expertise in customer relations, quick response to client queries and billing inquiries. Rebecca ensures that all clients are responded to promptly.
