Legal Practice

The firm undertakes criminal law for both corporate and individual clients. Clients can retain us to handle criminal law work including cases before the Anti-Corruption Court, traffic accident defences, bail applications and other criminal defence related work.

The Firm has proven practical working experience in capital markets and securities law of both local and a number of international capital markets. Advisory and other legal work undertaken in these areas includes: • Regulatory work including regulation of the establishment and operation of stock exchanges, brokers, financial advisors and other intermediaries by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA). • Regulation of banking and non-banking financial institutions by Bank of Uganda under the Financial Institutions Act 2004. • Listing of companies, IPOs, bonds etc on the Uganda Stock Exchange. • Prospectus and other disclosures requirements.

All company law related work is handled by the Firm including the following: • Company Incorporation/Registration. • Company secretarial work. • Mergers and Acquisitions. • Liquidations and Receiverships. • Company Restructuring. • Debt Recovery. • Bankruptcy.

The Firm handles significant legal work involving international transactions. These include: • International Mergers and Acquisitions. • International Privatisations. • International Corporate Restructuring. • Joint Ventures and other Investments.

The firm undertakes work in Employment/Labour Law. The firm has represented several clients in a number of labour disputes filed in both the district labour offices and courts of law. Some of these cases have been resolved through negotiated settlements while others have been resolved through litigation. The firm has also provided legal advice to several clients on matters relating to employment law.
